چکیده
A new serotype, Salmonella alachua,2 is represented by one culture isolated during a study of salmonellosis in swine in Florida. The culture was isolated from a sample of soil taken from a pen or holding lot in which swine were kept prior to slaughter. The soil was heavily contaminated with feces. The sample was collected by inserting a sterile dry swab into the moist ground and then placing the swab directly into tetrathionate enrichment broth which subsequently was streaked on a brilliant green agar plate. Salmonella anatum was isolated also from this soil specimen. The organism possessed the cultural and biochemical characteristics of the Salmonella. Acid and gas were produced from glucose, mannite, maltose, xylose, arabinose, inositol, trehalose, sorbitol, and dulcitol. Lactose, sucrose, salicin, adonitol, and raffinose were not fermented. Hydrogen sulfide was produced, citrate

Antifungal agents: Polyene, azole, antimetabolite, other and future agents
Antifungals have always been considered as one of the astonishing discoveries of the 20th century. This is correct, but the real marvel is the development of antifungal resistance in hospitals, communities, and the environment concomitant with their use. Fungal infections have emerged as an important clinical threat, with significant associated morbidity and mortality. This study is desig...
متن کاملP 57: The Effect of Biotin as a Therapeutic Agent for Progressive Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease caused by damage to the myelin of the nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain, MS was classified into 4 types including: Relasping/remitting (RR) primary/progressive (PP), secondary/progressive (SP), progressive/relapsing (PR). PR MS is one of the severe forms of MS that lead to inflammation associated physical, mental and vision dysfunction. Because...
متن کاملThe Mechanism of Regulation of Pantothenate Biosynthesis by the PanD–PanZ·AcCoA Complex Reveals an Additional Mode of Action for the Antimetabolite N-Pentyl Pantothenamide (N5-Pan)
The antimetabolite pentyl pantothenamide has broad spectrum antibiotic activity but exhibits enhanced activity against Escherichia coli. The PanDZ complex has been proposed to regulate the pantothenate biosynthetic pathway in E. coli by limiting the supply of β-alanine in response to coenzyme A concentration. We show that formation of such a complex between activated aspartate decarboxylase (Pa...
متن کاملStructure and function of Neisseria gonorrhoeae MtrF illuminates a class of antimetabolite efflux pumps.
Neisseria gonorrhoeae is an obligate human pathogen and the causative agent of the sexually transmitted disease gonorrhea. The control of this disease has been compromised by the increasing proportion of infections due to antibiotic-resistant strains, which are growing at an alarming rate. N. gonorrhoeae MtrF is an integral membrane protein that belongs to the AbgT family of transporters for wh...
متن کاملIsolation of Translating Ribosomes Containing Peptidyl-tRNAs for Functional and Structural Analyses
Recently, structural and biochemical studies have detailed many of the molecular events that occur in the ribosome during inhibition of protein synthesis by antibiotics and during nascent polypeptide synthesis. Some of these antibiotics, and regulatory nascent polypeptides mostly in the form of peptidyl-tRNAs, inhibit either peptide bond formation or translation termination. These inhibitory ev...
